The Pineal Gland 101: Detoxification And Reactivation

Solitude Overlooking The Sea at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
Gifted French philosopher and mathematician Rene Descartes (1596 - 1650) was fascinated by the pineal gland and studied it extensively.  He called it the "principal seat of the soul".  The word "pineal"  is derived from a Latin word which means "pinecone".  Many ancient cultures and traditions revered the pineal gland which is shaped like a pinecone and depicted frequently in architecture, sculpture, and art.  It figured prominently in the ancient art of iatromathematica (medical astrology of ancient Greece) long before scientific and medical studies had provided any data on physiological function.

The pineal gland has a place of importance in Freemasonry and the Egyptian mystery schools.  The Hindus regard it as the "third eye" and the Buddhists refer to the gland as the all-seeing eye.  One of the largest and most striking pinecones is the huge statue standing in the Vatican Court of the Pinecone.  The papal staff carried by the Pontiff also has a pinecone carved into the staff.
Clearly, the pinecone is a powerful and important symbol.  Jesus said,
"The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be filled with light". (Matthew 6:22).
That verse perhaps describes what all of the ancient cultures and religious traditions believed then and still believe today.  The pineal gland is the path to "higher consciousness", the higher self, the astral plane, the connection to the world beyond this dimension and the Divine.
The history and significance of the pinecone symbolizing the pineal gland has been masterfully researched and documented by David Wilcock in his latest book: The Source Field Investigations:The Hidden Science and Lost Civilizations Behind the 2012 Prophecies, Dutton, 2011.  Chapter 3:  The Pineal Gland and the Third Eye pp 40-66.  I wholeheartedly recommend this source for anyone wanting more information on this subject.
For those of us experiencing spiritual awakening, being able to connect with our higher selves and to enjoy the full benefit of meditation in healing physically, mentally, and spiritually, a functioning pineal gland is essential.
Unfortunately, the environment we live in, the foods we eat, and the beverages we drink are so toxic that our pineal glands, perhaps one of the most sensitive organs in our bodies are usually calcified with very limited functionality by the time we reach middle age.
The pineal gland is a small endocrine gland about the size of a pea buried and protected deep within the brain.  It secretes three important neuropeptides:
  • melatonin important for normal sleep-wake cycles, circadian rhythm, and sexual development in children
  • serotonin involved in mood regulation (happiness and depression) and a precursor for melatonin
  • DMT (dimethyltryptamine) structurally similar to melatonin and nicknamed "the spirit molecule" (more below)
When the pineal gland is not functioning properly, the synthesis and function of these three important compounds are seriously compromised.  Although located in the very center of the brain, the pineal gland is not protected by the blood brain barrier which means that toxins in the body blood system pass directly through the pineal gland.  It is second only to the kidney in terms of blood flow so the exposure to toxins is very high given its tiny size.  Overtime, the pineal gland calcifies and hardens.
Writes Sevan Bomar in his blog on "Decalcifying The Pineal Gland" (another excellent source):
"Cleaning up the Pineal Gland is useful for those wishing to develop their multidimensional perception.  The pineal gland will naturally make its own DMT when fully operational and we will be able to remain in a visionary state most of the time.  An awakened pineal gland brings the ability to consciously astral travel, explore other dimensions, foresee the future and receive communications from advanced dimensional beings.
DMT is a component of Ayahuasca - a plant medicine from the Amazon that brings profound physical and heart healing through its purgative effects and the perception of other dimensions......DMT is a totally natural substance that the human body will manufacture and distribute when it is in a healed state.  Thus it would appear human beings were intended to be visionary beings and be able to tap into the information in other dimensions.  This dimensional perception transcends the ego and rapidly heals our sufferings, conflicts and thus karmas."
Andrew Norton Webber has published two articles on the use of simple distilled water to turn back the clock on aging and for decalcifying the pineal gland.  This is a general approach in that it applies to the entire body, but one that is so simple that I am going to try it myself!!
Webber claims from anecdotal reports that drinking minimally 1/2 gallon of distilled water per day, 1 gallon is best, can reduce wrinkles, "dissolve" arthritis, eliminate the need for eyeglasses, overcome depression, and change gray hair back to the original color.  I doubt that every person has experienced all of those benefits, but there is little risk or expense in trying the method.
With respect specifically to the pineal gland, distilled water will gradually remove the fluoride, mercury, and calcium build up in the gland, ultimately restoring functionality.  He provides some practical advice relative to making or finding sources of distilled water and he addresses naysayers who claim the approach is potentially harmful.
Dr. Andrew Weil has been drinking distilled water for years.  He says:
"You can try drinking bottled distilled water if you like.  It's water that has been turned into steam so its impurities are left behind.  The steam is then condensed to make pure water.  The process of distillation kills and removes virtually all bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and other organic and inorganic contaminants.  Once distilled, the water is as pure as water can reasonably be.  While it's true that distillation removes minerals as it eliminates various other contaminants from water, I don't feel this is a problem. We get our minerals from food, not water.  As far as acidity goes, distilled water is close to a neutral pH and has no effect on the body's acid/base balance.  Distilled water is safe to drink, and the kind of water I use myself."
The toxins that inactivate the pineal gland are many.  The most prevalent and toxic, of course, is fluoride which literally shuts down the pineal gland and is very difficult to avoid.  It is not only in most toothpastes and tap water, it is also hidden in any processed food that is made with fluoridated sources.
One measure to remove fluoride build-up, in addition to the distilled water method above, is to use foods that have Vitamin K2, also called Activator X, found in organic butter oil, fermented cod liver oil or rat fish liver oil (best).  Further information is available in Nutrition And Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price, DDS (8th edition, 2008), a paperback available through Amazon Books.
Mercury is a second compound most deleterious to the pineal gland.   Many old tooth fillings are made of a mercury amalgam, which leach out toxin continuously as they age.  Most vaccines contain mercury in the form of thimersal, a vaccine preservative, which is methyl mercury.  Many fish nowadays are so contaminated with mercury that it may be best to avoid them altogether, particularly tuna, shrimp, prawns, or any bottom feeder.
Pesticides, artificial sweeteners, cleaning products, alcohol, cigarette smoke, refined sugar, mouth washes, and air fresheners should be avoided as much as possible.  Using organic, whole foods and avoiding processed products is a good way to avoid consumption of at least some of the undesirables.
Andrew Webber does warn us, however, that initially we may have what he calls "detox symptoms', a variety of short term ailments we experience as our bodies readjust to a cleaner, healthier environment.  He says not to get discouraged and assume that it is the distilled water that is making us sick.  We may need to back off on the amount of water for a short time to allow the body time to adjust.
I hope some of the suggestions above are helpful to you.  I will report back on my "distilled water treatment" and let you know what happens.
